Volume XIII, No. 3 April 2001 Call for Nominations to the NAASA Board The NAASA Board is elected by the membership at large. Our by-laws currently specify a ten member Board of Directors, two of whom are elected officers (President and Vice-President) and one (Secretary-Treasurer) who is appointed by the President. The immediate Past President is an advisor to the Board and is invited to attend Board meetings. Board members serve 4-year terms. Elected officers serve 2-year terms. A total of five Board positions along with the President and Vice-President positions will be open for election at the NAASA business meeting in October 2001 in Portland, Oregon. Of these, three Board members and two officers, President and Vice-President, are incumbents who will run for a second term. Job Descriptions: The Vice-President is responsible for overseeing the review, organization and scheduling of papers for the conference program. It is helpful for nominees to both of these offices to have organizational support for printing, phone and postage. The term is for two years. Both President and Vice-President must have had experience on the NAASA Board. Board members chair various committees and carry out the general work of the Board. All Board members are expected to meet at least once a year. Expenses of travel and accommodations are the responsibility of each member. The term is for four years. An individual may serve no more than two consecutive terms in any position. Nominating Procedure: The membership is invited to submit suggestions for potential Board members and officers to the chairperson of the Nominating Committee. The names of Board nominees will be published in the NAASA newsletter immediately preceding the conference. Additional nominees may be proposed and seconded from the floor at the conference business meeting. Brief biographies of the candidates will be circulated as part of the conference packets and biographies of the newly elected Board members will be published in the newsletter following the conference. All candidates will make a brief statement to the general membership at the business meeting held during the conference, introducing themselves and explaining what they feel they might contribute to further the purposes of NAASA. If a vacancy occurs between elections, the President may appoint an alternate to fill the unexpired portion of the term of that position. Qualifications: Barbara Hail, chairperson, NAASA Nominating Comm. Along with the suggestion send a biographical sketch of the nominee (approximately 75-100 words). Include the nomineeís full name and address and a brief statement of why you believe the individual would be a good candidate for the Board. Status of Current Board Positions |
