Volume XIII, No. 3 April 2001 NAASA Conference in Portland, OR The local arrangements committee is continuing to work to make the upcoming NAASA conference in Portland, Oregon one of the best ever! The pre-conference trip on October 24th will feature a spectacular drive past Mt. Hood for a visit to the Museum at Warm Springs. Our host institution, the Portland Art Museum, has recently installed its Native American galleries and has a new state-of-the art auditorium that we will be using. Conference participants will also have the opportunity to visit a Native American exhibition at the nearby Oregon Historical Society as well as several Portland galleries that feature Native American artists. Portland is served by all major airlines and transportation from the airport to the Paramount Hotel is quite simple. There are cabs as well as a downtown hotel shuttle service. Getting to Portland by train is another option, especially for those coming from the Seattle area. The train station is located downtown and is a quick cab ride from the Paramount. The Paramount Hotel, owned by an Alaska Native Corporation, is less than two years old and they are pleased to accommodate our NAASA membership. They have a brand new restaurant that is sure to please your palette! Conference room rates are $89 per night plus tax for a single or double room. There is also an $18 per day valet parking fee. Please note that there are a limited number of double rooms available so be sure to get your reservations early. The Paramount Hotel Reservation and information number is: 503-223-9900. To receive the NAASA conference rate remember to ask for the Native American Art Studies Conference. |
